In 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram, but the sites remained largely distinct. However, everything modified in 2020, so you can now post updates from the Instagram app to everyone on Facebook. We will teach you how the Cross-App Chat functionality can be used.
A new update has been rolled out by Instagram, which allows users to connect their Instagram direct messages with Messenger. This means you will now be able to send and receive Instagram messages to and from Messenger users. The feature is gradually being rolled out to consumers who are able to choose whether or not to integrate their inboxes.
The messaging interface on the Instagram app becomes very close to the Messenger app if a user wishes to upgrade. It provides users with functionality including message routing and chat thread customization. In addition to these, the company has introduced a range of additional features. These include selfie stickers, Watch Together, messaging through the “Vanish Mode”, and more.
Facebook also provides new controls to handle your privacy in addition to this. These include whether message requests go to your Conversations list, your Message Requests page, or whether you’re receiving them at all.
Facebook Messenger to Instagram, or Instagram to Facebook Messenger: Cross-App Messaging operates in all ways. However, since Facebook replaced the Direct Messaging icon on Instagram with a Messenger icon, cross-messaging is more popular there.
But there are a couple of drawbacks. You can only send Instagram messages to users on Facebook, not to Facebook pages or groups. You can send messages to every Instagram account on Facebook Messenger. But you can’t send messages to any Direct Message groups i.e your group of friends or colleagues, etc.
It’s important to remember that the two messaging apps have not “merged”. Instagram would not unexpectedly appear in your Messenger messages or vice versa. You actually have to check for users on the other site.
How to Message a Facebook Friend From Instagram
First thing first, open the Instagram app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone. On the top right, tap on the Messenger button.
Then, in the Search box at the right, enter the person’s name whom you wish to message.
The results will appear below in various sections as you type. Other users on Instagram will start at the top, followed by “Facebook Friends”. If they appear, tap the user you’re looking for or tap “See All” to see more results from Facebook.
You’ll see a “You’re Messaging a Facebook Account.” alert. You can now send a message and your friends will be able to see a similar message.
If you are not friends with the person on Facebook, Facebook will ask him/her to “Accept” or “Decline” the message.
Again, if you contact anyone on Instagram from Facebook Messenger, this works the same way. You just have to check for the Instagram account and you’ll see messages identical to those above for both users.
If you have occasional interactions on Facebook Messenger, Cross-Platform Messaging is especially useful. So if you don’t want to keep the app loaded, you can only do it on Instagram. A little convergence will make an immense difference!
Note: This feature is slowly rolling out and might not be readily applicable to you. Maybe you have to wait a while for it to turn up.
You will have to link your Facebook account to your Instagram account before you opt-in for the feature.
